Chase to Hyatt Points Transfer DEVALUES on October 1. Two Cards Take the Cut.
Chase to Hyatt Points Transfer DEVALUES on October 1. Two Cards Take the Cut.

On October 1, 2026, Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to World of Hyatt at 4:3 instead of 1:1 for Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Ink Business Preferred cardholders. Every 1,000 points becomes 750 Hyatt points.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Sapphire Reserve for Business are not affected. Those two keep transferring at 1:1.

If you hold a Sapphire Preferred or an Ink Business Preferred and you have a Hyatt stay in mind, you have until September 30 to move points at the old rate.

The short version

  • 1,000 Chase points becomes 750 Hyatt points, a 25% haircut

  • The change hits on October 1, 2026 for Sapphire Preferred cardholders who applied before June 15, 2026

  • Anyone approved for a Sapphire Preferred on or after June 15, 2026 has been at 4:3 since day one

  • Ink Business Preferred, Ink Plus and Chase Corporate Flex all move to 4:3 on October 1, 2026

  • A 15,000-point Hyatt night will cost 20,000 Chase points instead of 15,000

What exactly is changing on October 1?

Chase Ultimate Rewards points move to World of Hyatt at 1:1 today, which has been the single best hotel transfer in the U.S. points world for a decade. Starting October 1, 2026, the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Chase Ink Business Preferred drop to a 4:3 rate. Chase spelled out the math in its own announcement: cardmembers "who transfer 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points will receive 750 points with World of Hyatt."

Chase folded this into the Sapphire Preferred refresh announced on June 15, 2026, the same update that added 3x on gas and EV charging and doubled the Chase Travel hotel credit to $100. The Hyatt cut was the price of those additions.

Two timelines apply. Sapphire Preferred cardholders approved on or after June 15, 2026 have transferred at 4:3 from the start. Everyone who applied before that date keeps 1:1 through September 30, then drops.

Which Chase cards keep the 1:1 rate to Hyatt?

The Chase Sapphire Reserve, with its $795 annual fee, still transfers Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt at 1:1. So does the Sapphire Reserve for Business. Chase's announcement listed the affected cards as the Sapphire Preferred, the Ink Business Preferred, Ink Plus and Corporate Flex, and left the Reserve products off that list entirely.

This creates a split that did not exist before. Two people with identical point balances now get different Hyatt value depending on which piece of plastic earned them. Points pool across your Chase cards, so if you hold both a Preferred and a Reserve, move the points to the Reserve account first and transfer from there.

With only a Sapphire Preferred in your wallet, your Hyatt redemptions get 25% more expensive on October 1 and there is no workaround.

Should you transfer points to Hyatt before October 1?

Only if you know what you are booking. Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to World of Hyatt in one direction, and Hyatt points are worth nothing outside Hyatt. Speculative transfers ahead of a deadline are how people end up sitting on 60,000 orphaned hotel points.

The honest test is whether you have a specific stay, a specific date range, and award availability you have already seen with your own eyes. Hyatt standard award rooms sell out. If you have that, transfer now and book. If you are transferring because a deadline exists, stop.

Our guide to what points and miles are worth puts Hyatt points near the top of the hotel currencies at roughly 1.7 to 2 cents each. That is exactly why this transfer mattered, and why losing 25% of it stings.

What does a Hyatt night cost in Chase points now?

World of Hyatt prices standard award nights from 3,500 points at Category 1 up to 45,000 points at Category 8. Run those through the new 4:3 ratio and the Chase cost changes as follows.

  • Category 1, 3,500 Hyatt points: 4,667 Chase points instead of 3,500

  • Category 4, 15,000 Hyatt points: 20,000 Chase points instead of 15,000

  • Category 7, 30,000 Hyatt points: 40,000 Chase points instead of 30,000

A four-night Category 4 stay goes from 60,000 Chase points to 80,000. At a modest 1.7 cents per Hyatt point, you are still getting about 1.3 cents per Chase point out of the transfer, which beats redeeming through Chase Travel at 1 cent. The deal got worse. It did not stop being a deal.

Is the Sapphire Reserve worth $795 for the Hyatt rate alone?

The Chase Sapphire Reserve charges $795 a year and keeps the 1:1 Hyatt transfer. Paying $700 more per year than the $95 Sapphire Preferred to protect a 25% transfer ratio makes sense only if you move a lot of points to Hyatt. At 100,000 points transferred annually, the 4:3 rate costs you 25,000 Hyatt points, worth roughly $425. Below that, the fee gap wins.

The Reserve earns its fee through credits and lounge access, not through this one transfer rate. We break the two cards apart in our Sapphire Reserve versus Sapphire Preferred comparison, and the broader shortlist lives in our best travel credit cards guide.

What this means for you

Check which Chase cards you hold and when you were approved. If a Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred is your only route to Hyatt, price out any stay you were planning in the next few months and decide before September 30. If you also hold a Reserve, combine your points there and the problem disappears.

And if you have no Hyatt plans at all, do nothing. A worse transfer ratio on a transfer you were never going to make costs you exactly zero.

FAQ

When does the Chase to Hyatt 4:3 transfer ratio take effect?

The Chase Ultimate Rewards to World of Hyatt 4:3 ratio takes effect October 1, 2026 for Sapphire Preferred cardholders who applied before June 15, 2026, and for all Ink Business Preferred, Ink Plus and Corporate Flex cardholders. Sapphire Preferred cardholders approved on or after June 15, 2026 already transfer at 4:3.

Does the Chase Sapphire Reserve still transfer to Hyatt at 1:1?

Yes. The Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Sapphire Reserve for Business keep the 1:1 transfer to World of Hyatt. Chase did not include either card in the list of products moving to 4:3 on October 1, 2026.

Can I move points between my Chase cards to get the better rate?

Yes. Chase lets you combine Ultimate Rewards points across your own eligible cards at no cost. Moving points from a Sapphire Preferred to a Chase Sapphire Reserve account before transferring preserves the 1:1 Hyatt rate.

Should I transfer points to Hyatt now as a hedge?

No, unless you have a specific stay in mind. World of Hyatt points cannot be converted back to Chase Ultimate Rewards points or to any other program, so a speculative transfer locks your balance into one hotel chain permanently.

What else changed on the Sapphire Preferred in June 2026?

The Chase Sapphire Preferred added 3x points on gas and EV charging, 3x on vacation rentals at Airbnb and Vrbo, a $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit, and doubled its Chase Travel hotel credit to $100. Chase also discontinued the 10% anniversary bonus and kept the annual fee at $95.

The bottom line

Chase is charging Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred holders a quarter more for every Hyatt night starting October 1, 2026. It is a real cut on the best hotel transfer in the business. It is also survivable, because 4:3 to Hyatt still beats most of what else you do with a Chase point.
