Hyatt Award Prices Keep Climbing. 43% of Category 8 Nights Now Cost 55,000 Points.
New pricing data collected in late September 2026 shows 43% of World of Hyatt Category 8 award nights now price at 55,000 points or more. That share was 30% when Hyatt's revised award chart launched in May 2026. Hyatt promised better award availability in exchange for the higher ceilings, and availability has stayed flat.

What changed in Hyatt award pricing?
In May 2026, World of Hyatt moved from a flat category chart to off-peak, standard and peak pricing tiers, with Category 8 topping out far above the old 45,000-point ceiling. Thrifty Traveler sampled May through September 2027 availability in late September 2026 and found 43% of Category 8 nights at 55,000 points or higher, against 30% at launch. Upper and top tier nights now reach 65,000 to 75,000 points.
Hyatt's own redemption page still describes the program as letting members "redeem points for free nights in standard rooms without any blackout dates". No blackout dates is true. The price on those dates is the part that moved.
Did award availability improve?
World of Hyatt's argument for peak pricing was that charging more on high-demand dates would release more standard rooms into award inventory. The sampled data shows availability close to unchanged since May 2026, which means members are paying peak prices for the same number of seats at the table. Hilton and Marriott made a similar trade years earlier and the availability gain there was real, if modest.
That difference is the whole complaint. A devaluation that buys you more rooms is a trade. One that does not is a price increase.
Should you transfer Chase points to Hyatt before October 1?
On October 1, 2026, Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers to World of Hyatt drop from 1:1 to 4:3 on the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Ink Business Preferred. The Chase Sapphire Reserve keeps 1:1. If you hold a Preferred-tier card and a specific Hyatt booking in mind, moving those points before October 1 protects 25% of their value. Speculative transfers are a different question. Points parked in Hyatt are stuck in Hyatt, and Hyatt has already shown it will raise prices on its own timetable. Transfer for a booking you have priced. Do not transfer for a booking you hope to make in 2028.
Is World of Hyatt still worth chasing?
For one kind of traveler, World of Hyatt is still the best-value major hotel program, the person booking Category 1 through 4 properties, where nights still run 3,500 to 18,000 points and cash rates have risen faster than point prices. The damage sits at the top of the chart. A 75,000-point night at a Category 8 resort is priced like an airline award, and it should be judged like one. What this means for you
Price your Hyatt redemption in cents per point before you transfer anything. A 60,000-point night against a $900 cash rate is 1.5 cents and a fine deal. The same night against a $500 rate is 0.83 cents and worse than a cash-back card. If you hold a Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred, October 1 is the date that decides whether you do that math at 1:1 or 4:3.
