Hilton Honors members with Silver elite status or higher can now pay all or part of their hotel bill with points during Digital Check-out in the Hilton Honors app. Hilton’s October 21 press release says it works at 150 U.S. hotels today, more than 800 by the end of 2026 and more than 6,000 in the U.S. and Canada in early 2027. Hilton hasn’t published what each point is worth at checkout, and that number decides whether you should use it.

What changed

Until now, Hilton points paid for reward nights, Points & Money stays and Amazon purchases, but not the parking, dinner or resort fee on a paid stay at one of its hotels.

  • Before: points covered reward nights and, through Points & Money, part of the room rate when you booked. Charges added during the stay went on your card.
  • Now: at participating hotels, you review your folio (the hotel’s itemized bill) in the app at checkout and apply points to eligible charges. Your card on file pays the rest.
  • Rollout: 150 U.S. hotels now, 800 or more by December 31, 2026, and 6,000 or more across the U.S. and Canada in early 2027, per Hilton’s release.
  • Who it affects: Silver, Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve members. Members at the base Blue level don’t see the option.
  • Status shortcut: the no-fee Hilton Honors American Express card comes with Silver, the Surpass and Business cards with Gold, and the Aspire with Diamond, per Hilton’s credit card page. Any of them gets you access, and our best travel credit cards guide compares them with other hotel cards.

Key terms

  • App only: Hilton’s Pay with Points FAQ says “Hilton front desk agents cannot apply Pay with Points redemptions to a folio.” You have to check out digitally.
  • Which charges count: the Hilton Honors terms leave it to Hilton. Taxes, resort fees and room charges “may be eligible or ineligible for Pay with Points redemption.” The app marks what qualifies.
  • Minimum: the option appears only when you “have enough Points to meet the minimum redemption threshold.” Hilton doesn’t publish the number.
  • Your own room: you pay only for reservations where you’re the guest of record. One reservation with several rooms works if you select each room.
  • No changes afterward: once you confirm checkout, the points you redeemed are final, per the FAQ.
  • No cash value: the terms add that redemptions “cannot be redeemed for cash, prizes, or credit.”
  • How you’ll know: eligible members get a pre-arrival email saying their reservation qualifies. Hilton’s member benefits page lists the feature as available at select hotels.

What a point is worth at checkout

Hilton’s FAQ publishes one fixed rate for comparison: “500 Hilton Honors Points equal one dollar on Amazon.com.” That’s 0.2 cents per point. One Mile at a Time values Hilton points at 0.5 cents when you book reward nights well, and expects the checkout rate to land somewhere between the two.

Here’s what a $100 bill for parking and breakfast costs at each rate:

Rate per point Points for a $100 bill Value of the points
0.2 cents (the Amazon rate) 50,000 points $250 of reward-night value at 0.5 cents
0.4 cents 25,000 points $125 of reward-night value
0.5 cents (our benchmark) 20,000 points $100, a fair trade

The math is the bill in dollars divided by the points the slider asks for. If the app wants 40,000 points for $100, you’re getting 0.25 cents each, half what a reward night typically returns. Our points valuation guide explains why hotel points vary this much by use.

Our take

We’d treat Pay with Points as a way to clear a small balance, not as a redemption. Check the rate in the app first. If it comes out at 0.4 cents or better and you have no reward stay planned, using 10,000 or 20,000 points on a parking bill is reasonable. Below that, pay cash and save the points for a free night.

The feature helps most if you hold Silver through the no-fee Hilton card and sit on a few thousand points too small for a reward night. Diamond members with large balances should skip it unless the rate surprises us. Hilton also hasn’t said whether the part of the bill paid with points still earns base points, so a large folio paid with points might cost you earnings as well.

If you’re short on points for a real reward, Hilton runs buy-points sales several times a year, such as the one in our Hilton points sale post. The Hilton Amex offers are the bigger lever, since one welcome bonus covers several nights, and a targeted Amex Offer has paid up to 20,000 Hilton points on a stay. Hilton’s booking rule changes from August are also worth reading before your next paid stay, and our hotel points tag collects the rest.

FAQ

How do I pay my Hilton bill with points?

Check out through Digital Check-out in the Hilton Honors app at a participating hotel, review the folio and move the points slider. The front desk won’t do it for you.

Silver, Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve members with enough points to meet the minimum. Every Hilton Honors Amex card comes with at least Silver.

How many hotels take Pay with Points?
