United Airlines is matching Delta and American elite status through October 15, 2026. Approved members get comparable MileagePlus Premier benefits for 90 days. Spending between $1,500 and $7,000 on United tickets inside those 90 days holds the matched tier through January 31, 2028.

The short version

  • Applications close October 15, 2026.
  • Trial status runs 90 days, not the 120 days United’s standard challenge gives.
  • The spend to keep it: $1,500 for Premier Silver, $3,000 for Premier Gold, $4,500 for Premier Platinum, $7,000 for Premier 1K.
  • Clear the spend and the tier holds through January 31, 2028, about 15 months out.
  • Base fares and carrier-imposed surcharges count toward the spend. Government taxes, seat fees and paid upgrades do not.

Who qualifies for United’s October 15 status match?

United Airlines limits this offer to U.S.-based MileagePlus members who hold earned or lifetime elite status with Delta SkyMiles Medallion or American AAdvantage. Status you picked up from a trial, a challenge or a promotion is excluded. The match runs tier for tier, as AwardWallet and Business Traveller both reported.

Delta Silver Medallion and AAdvantage Gold match to Premier Silver. Delta Gold and AAdvantage Platinum match to Premier Gold. Delta Platinum and AAdvantage Platinum Pro match to Premier Platinum. Delta Diamond, Delta 360 and AAdvantage Executive Platinum or ConciergeKey all match to Premier 1K.

Status with any other airline goes through United’s separate standard challenge, which has its own rules.

What does it cost to keep United Premier status past 90 days?

United MileagePlus asks for ticket spend here instead of a flight count. The threshold scales with the Premier tier you matched into, and the clock is the same 90 days as the trial:

  • Premier Silver: $1,500
  • Premier Gold: $3,000
  • Premier Platinum: $4,500
  • Premier 1K: $7,000

Only the fare and carrier-imposed surcharges count. On a $600 ticket carrying $90 of government taxes, $510 goes toward the target. Seat assignments and paid upgrades are out, which trips people who assume a $900 trip total is $900 of credit.

How is this different from United’s normal status match?

United’s standard 2026 MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge takes applications from January 8 to December 21, 2026, and it runs on flights rather than dollars. Approval buys 120 days of trial status starting from an activating flight on United or United Express. Keeping the tier takes both Premier qualifying flights and Premier qualifying points: 5 flights and 1,700 PQP for Premier Silver, rising to 20 flights and 7,500 PQP for Premier 1K.

Twenty flights in 120 days is the harder ask. The October 15 offer drops the flight minimum entirely and replaces it with $7,000 of spend. For anyone who buys expensive tickets but takes few of them, the swap is the whole point.

The standard terms also lock out anyone who has done this recently. United writes: “Offer is not valid for members who have participated in the MileagePlus Status Match program within the last 3 years.”

One detail worth knowing on the standard challenge: PQP earned on an eligible United Chase credit card counts toward the requirement. Card spending will never produce the flights, so the flight count stays the wall. Every United card raised its welcome offer last week, which makes the timing convenient if you were already considering one.

What does trial Premier status not get you?

Matched MileagePlus Premier status is thinner than earned Premier status while the challenge period runs. United’s own terms say that during the challenge period, members “may not have access to all reciprocal Premier benefits with United’s partners, including access to Star Alliance lounges.” United also skips the membership materials, so you give your MileagePlus number at booking or check-in to get the benefits applied.

Plan around that if a Star Alliance lounge was the reason you wanted the status. A Lufthansa or ANA lounge on a partner itinerary is the benefit United carves out here.

Should you take it?

Premier Silver at $1,500 is the easy yes. One domestic round trip for two people clears it, and 15 months of entry-level status costs you nothing you would not have spent.

Premier 1K at $7,000 is a real decision. If United tickets were already in your budget for the next three months, the offer hands you top-tier status for spending you had planned anyway. If they were not, you are buying status with flights you did not want, and $7,000 of unwanted airfare is a poor way to get free bags.

The middle tiers follow the same test. Match into the tier your planned United spending already covers. Aim higher, miss the spend, and you drop back down.

What this means for you

You have until October 15, 2026 to apply, and LoyaltyLobby reported the offer on October 2, so the window is short. FAQ

When is the deadline for United’s Delta and American status match?

Applications for United’s limited-time Delta and American status match close on October 15, 2026. United’s separate standard MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge takes applications through December 21, 2026.

Does the match work if I got my Delta status from a challenge?

No. United’s status match requires earned or lifetime status with Delta SkyMiles or American AAdvantage. Tiers held through a trial, a challenge or a promotion are excluded, and United reserves the right to ask for supporting documents.

How long does matched United Premier status last?

Matched MileagePlus Premier status under the October 15 offer runs for 90 days. Meeting the ticket-spend threshold inside that period extends the tier through January 31, 2028.

Do taxes and seat fees count toward the United spend requirement?

No. United counts base fares and carrier-imposed surcharges on United and United Express flights. Government taxes, seat assignment fees and paid upgrades are excluded from the $1,500 to $7,000 thresholds.

Can I apply for both United status match offers at once?

Yes. United tracks the limited-time offer and the standard MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge separately, so holders of Delta or American status are able to enroll in both and let whichever one they complete stand.
