Every JetBlue Mosaic member, from Mosaic 1 to Mosaic 4, gets free, unlimited upgrades to BlueFirst, the airline’s new domestic first class, plus one companion on the same booking. Upgrades clear on a space-available basis starting 60 minutes before departure, and JetBlue Premier cardholders without status qualify too when they pay with the card. The upgrades begin with JetBlue’s first BlueFirst aircraft, and most of the other TrueBlue changes announced on October 22 start February 1, 2027.

BlueFirst’s first scheduled route, Boston to Fort Lauderdale, starts December 8, 2026, according to JetBlue’s BlueFirst page. Until now, JetBlue had no automatic upgrade list for its elites at all.

What changed

  • Before: Mosaic members had no upgrade list. A seat up front meant paying for Mint or spending a Move to Mint certificate, which came with Mosaic 3 and Mosaic 4 status.
  • Now: every Mosaic member, from Mosaic 1 to Mosaic 4, goes on a BlueFirst upgrade list automatically at check-in, per JetBlue’s space-available upgrades page.
  • Card route: JetBlue Premier cardholders and their authorized users qualify without status when the card pays for the base fare.
  • Fares: Main, Main Flex, EvenMore and EvenMore Flex count, including tickets booked with points. Main Base and EvenMore Base don’t.
  • Certificates: Move to Mint certificates become Premium Upgrade Certificates, usable for a confirmed seat in Mint or BlueFirst. Mosaic 2 members get the option to pick one as a perk from February 1, 2027.
  • Card perks: Premier cardholders at Mosaic 3 or 4 earn 5 TrueBlue points per dollar at restaurants and grocery stores. They also get a choice of a companion statement credit worth up to $500 or $1,500.
  • Who it affects: anyone who flies JetBlue enough to hold elite status, and anyone weighing the $499 Premier Card.

Key terms

  • Timing: JetBlue’s 2027 changes page says upgrades begin “with the arrival of our first BlueFirst-equipped aircraft.” The other changes start February 1, 2027.
  • Priority: the list runs Mosaic 4, Mosaic 3, Mosaic 2, Mosaic 1, then Premier cardholders without status. Inside each group, paying with a JetBlue card ranks first, then an EvenMore fare, then tiles earned this year.
  • Companions: one companion on the same reservation is eligible. A reservation with three or more travelers gets no upgrade, so split it before check-in.
  • What you don’t get: an upgraded passenger gets the seat and the onboard service. BlueFirst check-in and the bigger bag allowance stay with paid BlueFirst fares, and you earn points on the fare you bought.
  • No Mint: space-available upgrades work only on JetBlue flights with BlueFirst, never into Mint or on partner airlines. United Premier status doesn’t qualify.
  • The executive line: Ed Pouthier runs loyalty at JetBlue. He said in the press release: “Loyalty is a two-way relationship, and we’re committed to recognizing and rewarding our members every step of the way.”

The new Mosaic perk menu

JetBlue’s Mosaic 2027 page lists one Perks You Pick choice at each Mosaic level. From February 1, you’re allowed to pick the same perk again at a later milestone, and each choice expires 60 days after you reach the milestone.

Level (tiles needed) Points option Other new options Premier Card extra
Mosaic 1 (50 tiles) 10,000 points One BlueHouse lounge pass Gift a 10-tile bonus
Mosaic 2 (100 tiles) 10,000 points One Premium Upgrade Certificate Gift Mosaic 1 status
Mosaic 3 (150 tiles) 20,000 points One Premium Upgrade Certificate Gift Mosaic 2 status, or a companion credit up to $500
Mosaic 4 (250 tiles) 30,000 points Gift Mosaic 3 status or a year of BlueHouse Companion credit up to $1,500

From February 1, Mosaic 2 members also get a pet fee waiver as a standard perk. Five older choices leave the menu after January 31, 2027, including the $99 statement credit and IHG status, so pick one of those now if you want it.

Our take

This is the best change to TrueBlue in years, and it costs existing elites nothing. Every Mosaic member gains a free shot at first class on every eligible flight. The 60-minute clearing window is late, and you’ll often learn at the gate. Our American Airlines upgrade post shows how a bigger airline runs its list.

Expect few seats at first. JetBlue lists 21 BlueFirst routes starting by February 4, 2027, most of them touching Fort Lauderdale, Boston or New York, and paid passengers come first. If you mostly fly Mint routes, nothing here changes your trip.

The companion credit is where the numbers move. A Mosaic 4 Premier cardholder choosing between 30,000 bonus points and a $1,500 companion credit is choosing between about $390 and $1,500. We value TrueBlue points at 1.3 cents each, inside the 1 to 1.5 cent range for airline miles in our points valuation guide. At Mosaic 3, the $500 credit beats 20,000 points (about $260) whenever you’d buy a companion ticket for $500 or more anyway. The credit covers only the companion’s base fare, so taxes stay on you.

The 5X dining and grocery rate adds up too. Spending $1,000 a month in those categories earns an extra 36,000 points a year, about $468, which nearly covers the Premier Card’s $499 fee reported by One Mile at a Time. The math holds only if you reach Mosaic 3 at 150 tiles. Below Mosaic 3, we wouldn’t get the Premier Card only for the upgrade list, because Mosaic members already rank ahead of every cardholder without status.

If you’re close to Mosaic, fly JetBlue from Boston or Fort Lauderdale, and earn points through Bilt or a Rove transfer, it’s worth chasing status for 2027. Everyone else should keep comparing cards in our best travel credit cards guide before adding a $499 airline card. Our BlueHouse lounge post covers the lounge passes on the new menu.

FAQ

When do JetBlue’s free BlueFirst upgrades start?

They start with JetBlue’s first BlueFirst aircraft. The first BlueFirst route, Boston to Fort Lauderdale, is scheduled for December 8, 2026, and most other TrueBlue changes start February 1, 2027.

Do I need Mosaic status to get a BlueFirst upgrade?

No. JetBlue Premier cardholders, including authorized users, qualify without status when they pay for the base fare with the Premier Card.

Can I bring a companion into BlueFirst?

Yes, one companion on the same reservation. You need two open seats to move together, and a booking with three or more travelers isn’t eligible.

Do Main Base fares qualify for upgrades?

No. Main Base and EvenMore Base fares never qualify, even for Mosaic 4 members.

Do space-available upgrades work on Mint flights?

No. They apply only to JetBlue flights with BlueFirst. Mint upgrades still need cash or Premium Upgrade Certificates.
