On January 5, 2027, Best Western Rewards merges with WorldHotels Rewards, and the combined program keeps the WorldHotels Rewards name. BWH Hotels, Best Western’s parent company, announced on October 27 it’s renaming itself WorldHotels and putting more than 4,000 hotels and 18 brands under one loyalty program. Your points carry over at their current value, but the five membership tiers shrink to three, and the earning and award rates won’t be public until November 16.
The Best Western, Best Western Plus, SureStay and Aiden names stay on the buildings. The WorldHotels press release says property identities, signage and flags “will remain unchanged.”
What changed
- Before: BWH ran two hotel loyalty programs, Best Western Rewards and WorldHotels Rewards, with about 70 million members between them.
- Now: both fold into one WorldHotels Rewards program on January 5, 2027, alongside a new website and a redesigned app.
- Tiers: today’s Best Western Rewards has five tiers (Blue, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Diamond Select), Upgraded Points reports. The new program has three.
- Points: existing balances keep their value, and points still don’t expire.
- Credit cards: the two Best Western Rewards Visa Signature cards become WorldHotels Visa Signature cards in January 2027, a WorldHotels spokesperson told Upgraded Points. They keep the same benefits, including fast-track elite status.
- Who it affects: every Best Western Rewards and WorldHotels Rewards member, cardholders, and anyone holding elite status above the free Blue tier.
Key terms
- The promise: the new program protects “all current benefits such as status matching, member rates and points that never expire,” says the October 27 release.
- Point value: the same release says members “will retain their existing points value and enjoy additional opportunities to earn points.” It doesn’t say which new ways to earn.
- Next dates: the full program details arrive on November 16, 2026. Members learn which new tier they’ll move into on December 14, according to Upgraded Points.
- Status match: BWH’s loyalty page describes its Status Match…No Catch program, which matches elite status from any other hotel or travel booking site for free. The release lists status matching among the benefits that carry over.
- Partners: the same BWH page lists 22 marketing partnerships, including several airlines. Upgraded Points says earning, redeeming and converting points with those partners won’t change after the switch.
- Brands: the new WorldHotels Collection covers six upscale and luxury groups, including WorldHotels Backdrop, the glamping collection launched on April 14, 2026. Aiden, which reached 58 hotels in August, absorbs the Vīb hotels, and the Sadie brand is retired.
What we don’t know yet
The rules deciding what your points buy are still missing. WorldHotels hasn’t published tier names, qualifying nights or points, the earning rate per dollar, or the award prices for a free night. It also hasn’t said how its own WorldHotels Rewards members will move across, or how five tiers map onto three.
Moving from five tiers to three means at least two of today’s levels get merged. A Platinum member might land in the middle tier with Gold members, or move up with Diamond members, and nobody outside WorldHotels knows the benefits of each yet.
Our take
We wouldn’t rush to spend your hotel points, because WorldHotels has put “existing points value” in writing. We’d treat this line as a promise about your balance, not about award prices. A program keeps the same balance and still devalues it when a free night costs more points.
Here’s the math on a 60,000-point balance. If a hotel costs 20,000 points a night today, that balance buys 3 nights. If the new program prices the same hotel at 24,000 points, a 20% increase, your 60,000 points buy 2.5 nights (60,000 ÷ 24,000). That’s a 17% loss in what your points buy (1 − 20,000 ÷ 24,000), and nothing on your statement would change. Wyndham showed how this works in 2026, when its September award chart cut the value of its points by 15%, from 0.67 cents to 0.57 cents each.
So the November 16 award chart is the number to watch. Our points valuation guide explains how to price a point by dividing the cash rate by the points a night costs. Before and after the change, run the test on a hotel you book often.
If you already have a stay planned for early 2027, booking it with points now locks in today’s price. Check the hotel’s cancellation rules first, and do it only for trips you’d take anyway. Points don’t expire, so there’s no reason to book a stay only to spend them.
Cardholders should hold on to the card for now, since the benefits carry over. Revisit it after November 16, and compare it with the hotel cards in our best travel credit cards guide if the new tiers make its card benefits worth less. If you’re a few nights short of the next tier, wait for the November 16 rules before you add stays to reach it, since the tier might not exist in 2027.

January 5, 2027. WorldHotels publishes the full program details on November 16, 2026, and members learn their new tier on December 14.
Will my Best Western Rewards points expire or lose value?
No on both counts, per WorldHotels. Points still don’t expire, and members keep their existing points value. Award prices for 2027 haven’t been published, so what those points buy might still change.
