Bank of America Points Will Turn Into Alaska Atmos Miles in 2027

Alaska Airlines announced on October 2, 2026 that eligible Bank of America cardholders will be able to transfer points into Atmos Rewards starting in 2027. Alaska has not published a transfer ratio or a launch month. If it ships, it would be the first time Bank of America points leave the bank as airline miles.

The short version

  • Alaska confirmed the Bank of America transfer option for 2027. No ratio and no date were given.

  • Bank of America Premium Rewards points redeem at a flat 1 cent each. The 60,000-point welcome offer is described by Bank of America as "a $600 value."

  • The Bank of America Premium Rewards card charges $95 a year and earns 2 points per dollar on travel and dining, 1.5 points per dollar on everything else.

  • A refreshed Atmos Rewards Visa Business Card arrives in late 2026 with 10x points on eligible purchases.

  • An Atmos Rewards debit card arrives in early 2027, with pre-registration open now.

What exactly did Alaska announce?

Alaska Airlines published an update to its Atmos Rewards program on October 2, 2026. Buried in it is a line about banking partners. Alaska says it plans to enable "customers with eligible Bank of America card products to transfer points into Atmos Rewards." The airline put the date at 2027 and stopped there. No ratio. No month. No list of which cards qualify.

Alaska went further in the same program announcement, saying Atmos Rewards "plans to add points-transfer opportunities with other select global financial institutions." Bank of America is the first name attached to that plan. Brett Catlin, Alaska's Senior Vice President of Network, Loyalty and Partnerships, framed the wider update as a widening of the program rather than a narrowing of it.

Why does one transfer partner matter this much?

Bank of America points have one job today. The Bank of America Premium Rewards card earns points worth a flat 1 cent each toward travel, and the bank states the 60,000-point welcome bonus as "a $600 value" after $4,000 of purchases in the first 90 days. Good points. Fixed ceiling. You never beat a penny.

Transferable miles work differently. Move 60,000 points into an airline program and the value depends on what you book, not on a rate card. That is the whole reason people chase Chase, Amex, Capital One and Citi points. Bank of America has sat outside that group for years. Alaska miles are a reasonable place to land, with partners across oneworld and award pricing that rewards long-haul premium cabins.

Which Bank of America cards are likely to qualify?

Alaska said "eligible Bank of America card products" and named none. Three candidates earn the kind of points a transfer program would use. The Bank of America Premium Rewards card, at $95 a year, earns 2 points per dollar on travel and dining. The Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite card sits above it. The no-fee Bank of America Travel Rewards card earns 1.5 points per dollar on everything.

Treat that list as a guess. Alaska has not confirmed it, and Bank of America has said nothing publicly at all. The announcement came from the airline, not the bank, which is worth noticing.

Should you open a Bank of America card now to get ahead of it?

No. A transfer option with no ratio and no date is not a reason to take a hard credit pull in October 2026. Bank of America also runs its own application rules, including the 2/3/4 limits and a 3/12 or 7/12 restriction depending on your banking relationship. Those do not get easier because an airline mentioned the bank in a press release.

If you already hold a Bank of America card and sit on a points balance, the move is to leave it alone. Points do not expire while the account is open, and a 1-cent redemption will still be there in 2027 if the transfer ratio turns out to be bad.

What else is changing at Atmos Rewards?

Atmos Rewards is the loyalty program Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines now share. Two more products are coming. A refreshed Atmos Rewards Visa Business Card lands in late 2026 with 10x points on eligible purchases through Atmos Rewards for Business, lounge passes and free same-day confirmed flight changes. An Atmos Rewards debit card follows in early 2027, with no foreign transaction fees and the option to pay certain account fees with points.

The debit card is the odd one. A debit card that earns both points and status points is rare in the U.S. market, and it is the piece of this announcement most likely to matter to people who do not open credit cards. Alaska also changed how members earn, which we covered in our breakdown of the new Atmos earning choices.

What this means for you

Nothing to do today. File it and watch for the ratio.

The number to wait for is 1:1. At 1:1, Bank of America points stop being a 1-cent currency and start competing with Chase and Amex points for a spot in your wallet. At anything worse, such as the 4:3 ratios showing up across the industry this year, the math gets thin fast. Our points and miles valuation guide walks through how to run that comparison on your own balance.

If you are weighing a new travel card before 2027, pick it on what it does now rather than on a ratio nobody has published. Our best travel credit cards guide covers the cards earning transferable points today.

Neither Alaska Airlines nor Bank of America has disclosed a ratio. Until one is published, treat the value of Bank of America points as the 1 cent each they redeem for today.
